GPT Image 2.5
GPT Image 2.5 is the image model OpenAI released on September 8, 2026, the same generation as Images 2.5 in ChatGPT. The API offers two versions: Flare, the faster default, and Sunburst, which spends longer on fine detail. Klakix uses Sunburst, which ranked first on the Artificial Analysis text-to-image leaderboard as of September 23, 2026. No subscription needed.

What is GPT Image?
GPT Image is OpenAI's family of models for generating and editing images from text. Image creation in ChatGPT runs on this generation of models, and developers reach the same generation through the API. According to OpenAI's help center, the old DALL·E GPT has been removed from ChatGPT, and images are now made with ChatGPT Images.
Of the two most recent generations, GPT Image 2 came out in April 2026 and GPT Image 2.5 on September 8, 2026. OpenAI's announcement says 2.5 produces more natural lighting and texture, follows edit instructions more consistently, and returns images in ChatGPT up to 50% faster than Images 2.0.
| Generation | Released | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| GPT Image 2 | Apr 2026 | Previous generation |
| GPT Image 2.5 Flare | Sep 8, 2026 | Faster default for most apps; not on Klakix |
| GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst | Sep 8, 2026 | Extra precision for detailed work; available on Klakix |
Sunburst vs Flare
OpenAI offers GPT Image 2.5 in the API as two versions, and Klakix uses Sunburst. The ranking below comes from Artificial Analysis's Image Arena, where people compare two images blind and vote for the better one. Values were checked on September 23, 2026 and change over time.
| Feature | Flare | Sunburst |
|---|---|---|
| How OpenAI describes it | Default for most apps; higher quality than GPT Image 2 at about half the latency | Extra precision for detailed creative work; takes longer to generate |
| Artificial Analysis rank (highest quality) | #2, 1,190 Elo | #1, 1,197 Elo |
| On Klakix | No | Yes |
Quality, shape, and credits
The price depends only on quality and shape; a longer prompt doesn't cost more. Square images are 1024 pixels, and landscape and portrait images are 1920 pixels on the long side.
Depending on your credit pack, a square image at Highest quality works out to about $0.91–$1.67, and a landscape image at Standard quality to about $0.18–$0.33. Packs are on the pricing page.
| Quality | Square | Landscape | Portrait |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | 7 credits | 5 credits | 5 credits |
| Highest | 25 credits | 19 credits | 19 credits |
How long does it take?
A landscape image at Highest quality took 81 seconds in our test; Standard is faster. When you're still exploring, get the scene right at Standard quality first, then make the final version at Highest. It saves both time and credits.
Text in images
GPT Image 2.5 is reliable with text: menus, posters, labels, and covers. In our tests it even added fitting, correctly spelled menu text to a chalkboard when the prompt didn't spell any out.
If you need exact wording, put the text in quotes and keep it short. Prompt enhancement expands your description into a more detailed prompt the model follows better; if you want your words left untouched, turn it off and write the full prompt yourself. Prompts can be up to 4,000 characters here.
ChatGPT or Klakix?
You can use the same generation in ChatGPT, where image creation is limited on the free plan and paid plans allow more. Klakix is a fit if you'd rather pay per image without a subscription, or compare GPT Image with other models on one screen.
| Feature | ChatGPT | Klakix |
|---|---|---|
| Model | ChatGPT Images 2.5 | GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst |
| Cost | Limited on the free plan; more on paid plans | No subscription needed; 5 to 25 credits per image |
| Upload and edit a photo | Yes | No; text to image only |
| Other image models on the same screen | No | Nano Banana 2 and Muse Image |
