What happened to Sora?
Yes, Sora is gone. OpenAI shut down the Sora app and website on April 26, 2026, and set September 24, 2026 as the date sora-2 and sora-2-pro were removed from its API. OpenAI named no replacement. Is Sora shutting down?
It already has. Sora was OpenAI's text-to-video model. On March 24, 2026, OpenAI told developers it would shut Sora down. According to OpenAI's help center, the Sora web and app experience ended on April 26, 2026. OpenAI's deprecations page lists September 24, 2026 as the date sora-2, sora-2-pro, and the Videos API were removed from the API, with no recommended replacement.

Can you still use Sora 2?
No. The Sora app shut down everywhere on April 26, 2026, so there's no way left to use Sora through OpenAI's own products, and the API removal date has passed too.
Sites that still use the Sora 2 name today aren't OpenAI products. Before you enter card details, check which model they actually run and what their payment terms are.
What did Sora cost?
In December 2024, Sora came with ChatGPT Plus at no extra cost: up to 50 videos a month at 480p, with ten times the usage on Pro. For developers, OpenAI's pricing page listed Sora 2 per second of video in September 2026: sora-2 at $0.10 at 720p; sora-2-pro at $0.30 at 720p, $0.50 at 1024p, and $0.70 at 1080p. With the API shut down, those prices no longer apply.
OpenAI said purchased ChatGPT and Sora credits can be used in Codex. For comparison, an 8-second 720p video with sound from Veo 3.1 Lite costs 40 credits on Klakix, about $1.45–$2.67 depending on your credit pack.
What happened to videos made in Sora?
OpenAI said Sora content could be downloaded with the Export option at sora.chatgpt.com/sunset, with an email sent when the export was ready.
